WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ESTHETIC AND COSMETIC DENTISTRY? Esthetic dentistry refers to the comprehensive and scientific treatment of the smile integrated with related oral needs for optimum beauty, health, function, comfort and longevity. Beauty requires a complete diagnosis as well as treating for healthy gums and a stable bite. Treatment is typically rendered by prosthodontists who are the dental specialists with advanced esthetic training in full time graduate programs accredited by the American Dental Association. Cosmetic dentistry has become a marketing buzz word typical of the makeover shows. Too often it refers to only a partial treatment of the oral needs with a limited focus on the marketing potential of a pretty smile but not necessarily a healthy, long lasting treatment. The treatment may be provided by a general dentist who may have completed several days of unaccredited study which often includes an excellent marketing program. Often it is cheaper to do it correctly the first time. The following photographs are a few examples of beautiful smiles Dr. Jones has given to his patients.
